Prompt Engineering
The practice of carefully crafting the wording of an input to an AI model in order to reliably get a specific kind of output.
What it is
Small changes in how a question is phrased — adding constraints, specifying a format, giving context — can change what a model produces. Prompt engineering is the discipline of finding wording that consistently produces the desired kind of response.
Why it matters for AI visibility
Tools that measure AI visibility depend on prompt sets that mirror how real people actually ask questions, because small wording differences can change which brands get surfaced. "Best CRM for a small team" and "top CRM software 2026" can return meaningfully different sets of mentioned brands, even though a human would treat them as near-synonyms.
