Zero-Shot Prompting
Asking a model to complete a task with no examples included in the prompt, relying entirely on what it learned during training.
What it is
A zero-shot prompt is just an instruction or question with no demonstrations attached — the model has to figure out the task and produce a reasonable answer purely from its trained knowledge and general instruction-following ability.
Why it matters for AI visibility
Almost every real user query typed into ChatGPT, Perplexity or Gemini is zero-shot — nobody hands the model examples before asking "what's the best project management tool." That means the answer depends entirely on the model's trained knowledge and whatever it retrieves in the moment, not on anything the user primed it with.
