What is GEO?
Generative Engine Optimization — the practice of improving how generative AI models represent your brand.
The short version
GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) is the practice of shaping your online presence so that generative AI models — the ones powering ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and similar tools — describe, cite and recommend your brand accurately and favorably.
How it relates to SEO
GEO shares some overlap with SEO — clear, well-structured, factual content still matters — but the goal is different. SEO optimizes for ranking in a list of links. GEO optimizes for being named, accurately described, and recommended inside a generated answer, where there's often room for only a few brands to be mentioned at all.
What GEO involves in practice
- Understanding which prompts in your category generate AI answers
- Tracking whether your brand appears in those answers, and how
- Identifying the sources AI models cite most, and getting cited by them
- Publishing content that directly answers high-intent buyer questions
Where MentioningYou fits
MentioningYou tracks your GEO performance across every major AI engine — visibility, share of voice, citations and sentiment — and turns the gaps into prioritized actions.
