Neutral Mention

A brand mention that names the brand without evaluative language — appearing in a list or factual reference with no stated opinion, positive or negative.

How it works

Being included in a plain list of options ("tools in this space include A, B and C") with no commentary counts as neutral, not positive — inclusion alone isn't endorsement. A high neutral-mention rate relative to competitors usually signals that a brand is recognized as a category player but hasn't earned an opinion from the model one way or the other, which is a different problem than being mentioned negatively.
