Gemini Grounding with Search
Google's feature that connects Gemini to live Google Search results so its answers can be backed by current web sources instead of only training data.
How it works
Grounding with Google Search lets Gemini — in the Gemini app, and as an API feature developers can enable — issue search queries and incorporate the results, attaching source links to the grounded portions of the response. It's the same underlying mechanism Google uses to reduce hallucination risk in answers that require current facts.
Why it matters for visibility
A page's normal Google Search ranking is a strong input into whether it gets pulled into a grounded Gemini answer, so classic SEO fundamentals carry over directly. Tracking which domains appear as grounding sources in Gemini answers is one of the more measurable ways to gauge AI visibility on Google's conversational surfaces.
