Copilot Bing Index
The Bing web index that powers Microsoft Copilot's web search and citation capability.
What it is
Copilot — in the consumer Copilot app, the Edge browser, and Bing — draws its live web results from Microsoft's Bing search index, the same underlying index that ranks pages in regular Bing search. That means Copilot's citation behavior is tied closely to how a page performs in Bing specifically, not just Google.
Why it matters
Because Bing has a meaningfully smaller crawl and different ranking signals than Google, a brand can rank well in Google Search while being poorly indexed in Bing, which limits its odds of being cited by Copilot. Bing Webmaster Tools submission and Bing-specific SEO become directly relevant to Copilot visibility as a result.
