Why the surface matters
Because Copilot is built into tools people already have open for work, it can reach someone who never deliberately opened a dedicated AI assistant — a different discovery moment than a person actively choosing to visit ChatGPT or Perplexity.
Tracking considerations
Copilot draws on Microsoft's own model infrastructure and integrations, so its answers can differ from other engines even for an identically worded question — another reason to track each engine independently rather than assuming consistent behavior across all of them.
