Competitor Overlap

The percentage of tracked prompts where a brand and a specific competitor are both mentioned in the same answer.

What it reveals

High overlap with a competitor means the two brands are being evaluated side by side by AI engines whether either company intends it or not — the models have effectively decided the two belong in the same conversation. Low overlap with a brand's assumed main rival, but high overlap with a different company, is often a sign the competitive set a brand thinks it's in isn't the one AI engines actually place it in.

How it gets used

Overlap data is what makes competitor selection for benchmarking evidence-based rather than assumed — it shows which competitors actually show up alongside a brand most often, and therefore which comparisons are worth optimizing for.
