Chain-of-Thought Reasoning
A technique where a model works through intermediate reasoning steps before producing a final answer, rather than jumping straight to a conclusion.
What it means
Instead of outputting an answer immediately, the model generates a sequence of intermediate steps — weighing options, checking constraints — and the final answer follows from that chain. This tends to produce more accurate results on questions that require comparison or multi-step logic.
Why it matters for AI visibility
Questions like "which of these three tools is best for a small team" are exactly where chain-of-thought reasoning shows up, because the model has to explicitly weigh brands against each other before answering. That intermediate comparison is often where a brand gets named, ranked, or dropped, well before the final sentence is written.
