llms.txt Directives
The specific rules and content blocks written inside an llms.txt file that tell AI systems which pages matter most and how to interpret them.
What goes in it
An llms.txt file typically opens with a short site description, followed by a curated set of links to the most important pages, grouped under headings and written in plain Markdown rather than HTML.
Why curation matters
A generic dump of every URL on a site defeats the purpose. The value of llms.txt directives comes from deliberately prioritizing what an AI system should treat as authoritative, rather than mirroring a full sitemap.
