llms.txt

A proposed standard file, placed at the root of a website, that gives AI systems a curated summary of the site's most important content.

How it works

Similar in spirit to robots.txt, an llms.txt file lives at a predictable URL and provides a concise, structured overview intended to help AI systems quickly understand what a site covers, without needing to crawl and interpret every page.

Adoption status

llms.txt is a relatively new, still-emerging convention — not every AI system currently reads it, but it's a low-cost addition for sites that want to be explicit about their most important content for AI systems that do support it.
