Duplicate Content

Identical or near-identical content that is reachable at more than one URL, whether on the same site or across different sites.

Why it splits authority

When the same content exists at multiple URLs, crawlers have to choose which version to treat as authoritative. Splitting signals like links and citations across duplicates dilutes the standing any single version would otherwise have on its own.

Fixing it

Canonical tags, redirects, and consolidating near-duplicate pages into one comprehensive version are the standard fixes — the goal is one clear, authoritative version per piece of content.
