ChatGPT Memory
OpenAI's feature that lets ChatGPT retain facts about a user across sessions and reference them in later conversations.
What it does
Memory lets ChatGPT store details a user shares — preferences, past projects, tools they already use — and pull them into future chats without the user repeating context. It's separate from browsing or search: memory doesn't fetch anything from the web, it just persists user-specific state between sessions.
Relevance to brand tracking
Memory can make ChatGPT's brand recommendations sticky and personalized — if a user once mentioned using a particular tool, ChatGPT may keep favoring it later regardless of what a fresh search would surface. That's a blind spot for visibility tracking, since tools typically query from a stateless, memory-free account and can't fully see how memory skews an individual user's real-world recommendations.
